67-km access-controlled spur from Delhi-Mumbai Expressway to connect Bandikui and Jaipur; project aims to ease congestion on NH-44
Gurugram, June 26, 2025 – Commuters travelling between Delhi and Jaipur can expect a smoother and faster journey from mid-July, as the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is set to open a 67-km-long high-speed spur connecting Bandikui to Jaipur. The new stretch, a part of the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway project, is designed to cut travel time by around one hour and reduce the overall distance between the two cities by 12 kilometers.

Key Highlights:
- Length of New Spur: 67.8 km
- Route: Bandikui to Jaipur
- Cost: ₹1,368 crore
- Travel Time Reduction: Approx. 1 hour
- New Total Travel Time: 3 to 3 hours 15 minutes (Delhi to Jaipur)
- Features: Four-lane, access-controlled road with paved shoulders
Bypassing Congestion on NH-44
Currently, travelers from Delhi to Jaipur have to exit the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway at the Bandhrej toll plaza in Dausa district, from where they must use the congested Jaipur-Agra Highway (NH-44) to reach their destination. This often adds an additional 1.5 hours to the journey. The newly constructed spur will allow vehicles to bypass NH-44 completely, leading to a significant reduction in travel time and traffic congestion.
According to NHAI officials, the 67.8-km-long spur from Bandikui to Jaipur has been constructed to state-of-the-art standards. It took approximately 2.5 years to complete and will be opened for traffic trials starting mid-July.

Statements from Officials
NHAI Regional Officer (Rajasthan), Pradeep Atri, said,
“The safety audit is currently underway. Once we receive the final report, any required remedial measures will be implemented. The expressway spur will drastically reduce travel time and improve connectivity between Delhi, Gurugram, and Jaipur.”
NHAI Manager Pushpendra Singh added,
“We expect a major shift in traffic patterns from the traditional Delhi-Jaipur highway to this new expressway spur. The Bandikui interchange will offer seamless access to the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway.”
Future Expansion Plans
In addition to this project, NHAI is also exploring a greenfield expressway plan to further decongest the Jaipur-Agra highway. This proposed project would establish a direct express route connecting Jaipur with the Delhi-Agra highway, significantly improving regional mobility.
Impact and Benefits
- Reduced fuel consumption and travel costs
- Boost to tourism and logistics between Delhi and Jaipur
- Economic development along the new expressway corridor
- Decongestion of existing routes (NH-44)

Conclusion
With the launch of this new spur, the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway will become an even more critical artery in India’s transportation network. For residents and frequent travelers between Delhi, Gurugram, and Jaipur, the upcoming changes promise convenience, efficiency, and improved road safety.
