Hyundai Creta hybrid to rival Grand Vitara, Hyryder, and upcoming Duster hybrid; total engine options will go up to four.

In a major move to expand its SUV portfolio and offer eco-friendly alternatives, Hyundai is preparing to launch the third-generation Creta with a hybrid powertrain. Codenamed SX3, the next-gen Hyundai Creta is expected to hit Indian roads in the coming years and will feature a total of four powertrain options — two petrol engines, one diesel, and a new petrol-hybrid.

Hyundai Creta Hybrid to Compete in Expanding Hybrid SUV Segment

Once launched, the Hyundai Creta hybrid will take on strong rivals such as the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, and the upcoming Renault Duster hybrid. With the Indian market showing increased interest in hybrid vehicles, Hyundai’s decision to offer a hybrid Creta reflects a timely and strategic shift.

Powertrain Options for Hyundai Creta Third-Gen

Currently, the Hyundai Creta is offered with the following engine options:

  • 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine (115 hp)
  • 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine (160 hp)
  • 1.5-litre diesel engine (116 hp)

With the hybrid addition, the third-generation Creta will include:

  • A petrol-hybrid engine option, details of which are yet to be revealed.

This hybrid powertrain is likely to focus on improving fuel efficiency, reducing emissions, and providing a smoother driving experience in urban traffic conditions.

Hyundai Creta Hybrid Launch Timeline and Positioning

The Creta hybrid is expected to launch after Hyundai introduces its first hybrid SUV in India. Positioned as a more eco-conscious offering, the hybrid variant will eventually be followed by a Kia Seltos hybrid, which will share similar underpinnings and technology.

Electric Creta Facelift Also in the Pipeline

In addition to hybridisation, Hyundai is also preparing a mid-cycle facelift for its upcoming Creta Electric model. While details about the Creta EV facelift remain limited, it is expected to come with:

  • Design enhancements
  • More onboard technology
  • Improved comfort features

The electric version will be a part of Hyundai’s push towards complete electrification in the Indian SUV segment, possibly featuring advanced battery tech and connected car features.
